Jazz 100 - Count Basie 30 May 2017

Jazz 100 - Count Basie image

Five letters sum up Count Basie’s contribution to 1930s jazz - S-W-I-N-G - and for the next fifty years his bands not only swung, they made tunes such as April in Paris the evocative sound of celebration. A pianist who made every note count, Basie gave his orchestras the freedom of a sextet and featured a stream of soloing talent over the surest of rhythm sections.

Tom Gordon plays Basie at this year's Festival. Read more about the show here!
