Jazz 100 - Louis Armstrong 24 May 2017

Jazz 100 - Louis Armstrong image

Louis Armstrong is the most important, most influential figure in jazz history, he was one of the first jazz soloists and was largely responsible for transforming jazz from an ensemble-based vernacular music into an art form that championed individual expression, invention and virtuosity. His relaxed phrasing and strong blues feeling made both his trumpet and singing communicate directly and immediately.

Both Enrico Tomasso and James Williams pay tribute to the great trumpter in the Festival.
